HDPE ALLOY
- CROSS LAMINATED GEOMEMBRANE The material, from which this
geomembrane is manufactured, is a cross-laminated (electrostatically fused), multi-axially
oriented, HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) Alloy. Because of the
multi-ply orientation, the material is extremely strong. It stretches
evenly under stress and is considered to be a self - supporting membrane. This
Cross Laminated HDPE Alloy does not require reinforcement
for the enhancement of its physical properties. This high density,
cross-laminated poly is designed to be UV resistant by a state of the art
stabilization system. This HDPE Alloy is
UV stabilized to help protect from the deteriorating effects of direct
sunlight. The HDPE Alloy
maintains its
strength and flexibility in cold temperatures. Laboratory tests according
to ASTM D-1709 (modified or improved test) revealed that this
Cross Laminated HDPE Alloy demonstrated
a cold crack resistance of minus [-] 70 º F below zero. Numerous applications in Alaska, Canada and other cold regions throughout
the years have proven that this cross laminated HDPE Alloy
can withstand adverse weather conditions. The HDPE Alloy is chemically inert,
non-leachable and is resistant to root penetration,
rodents and microbials (it is not a food source). Additionally, it meets
ASTM D-3083 (Soil Burial). The HDPE Alloy is not prone to stress-cracking
(ESC), thus, making it a very good moisture and Radon barrier. The
20 mil HDPE Alloy is equivalent
to a 30 mil polyethylene in terms of resistance to petroleum compounds,
tensile strength, resistance to sunlight degradation (UV) and elongation.
The Texas Pollution Control Branch (A Division of the Environmental Management
Group) declared that the 20 Mil Cross Laminated HDPE Alloy Containment Liners are a viable alternative to 30 mil polyethylene (dated
Oct. 31, 1991).

HIGH STRENGTH
GEOMEMBRANE Daily landfill covers have a number of special requirements
which will greatly effect cost effectiveness. The frequent pulling
of your daily landfill cover across a wide array of rough and jagged edges
as you deploy and remove it necessitates that your cover material be extremely
durable to resist tears and abrasions. Otherwise you are left with
a shredded mess in short order. The patented manufacturing process
produces a cover with high tear resistance in all directions. This
greatly extends the effective life of your cover.
EASY HANDLING
Since you are constantly deploying and removing this
cover, you want a light-weight material that can be handled easily by as
small a crew as possible for the greatest labor savings. |

Factory
Seams |

FACTORY
SEAMS TESTED
All factory seams are subjected to inspection and testing
by Quality Control personnel. This seaming method produces a two
inch wide seam that is watertight and comparable in strength to the parent
material. While demanding the strictest attention to detail, statistical process controls and rigorous testing procedures assure the utmost
in quality raw materials, intermediates and finished goods. |
|
Field
Seaming |
Field Seaming is greatly minimized due to the ability
to prefabricate customized and large liners. When necessary, multiple
large liners can be seamed in the field using hand-held extrusion welders.
These fuse the liners together utilizing a welding rod material identical
in composition to the base liner. Additionally, Fabrication Tape And
Seam Tape can be used to form a durable water-tight seal. |
|
Subgrade
Prep |
It is common practice to install the liner over a two
inch layer of sand (or equivalent) or over a layer of geotextile.
In addition to protecting the liner, the geotextile also helps stabilize
the slope subgrade. Liners installed over a subgrade which contains
any sharp rocks, roots or other protrusions are subject to puncturing.
Any rocks that are not smooth and are greater than 1/4 inch in diameter
should be removed before installing the liner. |
|
Installation
Guide |
HDPE Alloy Liners are specially
folded at the factory to make deployment easier. Liners are accordion
folded providing easy removal and placement along the edge of the pond
area with a minimum of labor. The liner is then pulled across the
pond where it is positioned and secured. The process is repeated
when multiple liner sections are required.
BASIC Installation Guidelines
|
|
Anchoring Methods |
The recommended method is to dig an anchor trench, insert
the perimeter of the liner material into the trench and anchor it by backfilling
the trench. This is the preferred method because it completely prevents
the ingress of water and wind under the liner. Water under the liner
can erode the subgrade and undermine the liner support-leading to liner
failure. If wind gets under an open edge, it can quickly convert
the liner into a sail. |
|
Pipe Penetrations |
Pipe and other penetrations through the liner can be
sealed by using a pipe boot. This is a flanged tube fabricated at
the factory using the liner material. The tube fits over the pipe
and the flange is sealed to the liner with Fabrication Tape. If required,
the open end of the tube may be sealed with Fabrication Tape or gasketed and mechanically
sealed. |
|
Fabrication Tape |
Fabrication Tape is used to form a durable water-tight seal around
the penetrations through the liner. |

For pond/lagoon liners, installation and the effective
life of the material play a significant role in determining how much you
really have to pay. These cross laminated high-density
polyethylene liners can be manufactured in sizes up to an acre, virtually
eliminating the need for hiring installation crews to field seam multiple
panels. In addition, the HDPE Alloy is
specifically engineered to provide superior strength and tear resistance
at a fraction of the weight of other materials. The light weight
reduces the manpower and time required for
installation.

REMOVE
HDPE ALLOY GEOMEMBRANE LINER FROM CRATE
The Cross Laminated HDPE
Alloy liners are
specially packed into crates in a manner which facilitates their removal.
When the crate is placed on a trailer or the back of a truck, simply pry
the top and back from the crate and pull the upper end of the material
out to lay flat on the ground. Place weights or personnel on this
extended end of the material. Drive the truck forward causing the
remainder of the material to accordion fold from the crate until the whole
liner is removed. |
 |
PULL
HDPE ALLOY GEOMEMBRANE LINER ACROSS THE POND/LAGOON
Place your people evenly across the length of the liner.
(Depending
on the substrate condition, you may wish to place a 6" layer of sand or
geotextile in the excavated hole before deploying the liner).
Weigh down the lower end of the material to hold in place. Those
on the leading edge then should take a firm grip and deliberately walk
the liner down the side, across the bottom and up the other side of your
pond / lagoon. Weigh down the liner around the entire circumference
to prohibit the wind from blowing the liner back into the hole.
|
 |
ANCHOR
TRENCH PERIMETER OF HDPE ALLOY GEOMEMBRANE LINER
Dig an anchor trench around the entire perimeter of your
pond / lagoon. Place the edge of the liner into this trench.
Backfill the trench sealing the liner in place. (Depending on
the particular application your pond / lagoon will serve, you may wish
to place a thin layer of dirt or clay on the liner in the bottom of the
hole before sealing down the liner). Now you're ready to introduce
liquid into your pond / lagoon. |
